I am pleased to announce the first group build for the Sherman Shop.
Several members here at the shop had discussed doing a build off of the1/35 Tamiya M4A3 kit before the creation of the Sherman Shop. We have now decided to open the build up to all members here at the Shop.
The one and only rule for this group build is that the kit MUST be a 1/35 Tamiya sherman. The purpose of the build is to take a trip down memory lane and see what other member can do with these old kits.
The group build is open to all member of The Sherman Shop from beginners to advanced modelers. Members may choose to build it straight out of the box to super detailing and converting.Builds must be unstarted before January 1st.
This group build will start January 1st 2014 with no deadline. To participate, just start posting progress pictures in this thread. No need to actually "sign up" for it.
Well, I can't as I STILL haven't picked out anything yet. I may do a kit bashing of some sort like a Tamiya kit and a Verlinden conversion but can't pull the trigger yet.

Gee, I haven't asked John... would that be okay?
Jeff
Jeff,
As long as the base kit is Tamiya, you can build it, convert it, bash it, smash it how every you want.

I thought so but I wanted to check first. It most likely will be at the first of the year.

Hi guys!
Just for Big John (or anyone else looking to turn out an M4A3 early), here are shots of my current build - an M32B3 based on the Tamiya "M4" chassis and an MP Authen-I-Kit upper hull. (Plus the M32 turret and detail sprues from Tasca, an Italeri M32, and a really cheap set of Tasca suspension that replaces the DML spares-box set I was gonna use...)
This isn't my entry, since I started it in November, but I've got another Tamiya build up my sleeve...
First up, the FDA. I chose to keep the Tamiya sprocket mounts, but graft on a spare DML nose. Had to widen it a bit and add lots of fillers from scrap plastic!
Then the rear end. I used some 8mm diameter tube (Plastruct? Can't remember - I've had it so long...) and cut a slice with a saw, sanded to fit, and filled the ends afterwards.
DV hoods were created by cutting off the front of the odd narrow MPI kit hoods, backed with plastic to avoid thinning too much. I added crude flaps, dabbed on filler, sanded, then hid the lot behind applique armour plates. I'll add one of my 3D printed radio pots later.
The rear end needed extended to the right slope for an A3. I added strip, then filed it so it was flush across the top and flared out at the base. Lots of reinforcement inside...
Still need to add the plate under the engine, and lots of other details, but the basic surgery is completed. Anyway, hope this tutorial helps!
C'mon guys, i wanna see your goodies! Ya'll know what i mean.
Mine will be the M4A3 105 but no pic as its at the bottom of a stash pile in the wardrobe which I dare not start emptying this near to Christmas. if I want to live
Thanks for sharing your build. I have a game plan and think I have it all worked out.
I have no problem if you enter this one, as long as its ok with every one else. After all, this is not a strict group build with deadlines and all, just something to do for fun.

Hi John,
I'd be happy to, if everyone else is ok with it? It hasn't got any further than those photos for now - I'm hoping for some quality hours over the break. Needless to say, it's a complicated build and I don't expect to set any speed records!
I'm still going with the Tamiya 32 251 105mm Howitzer version. Not sure if there are any specific ones for it, but probably the H Co., 69th Tank Bttn., 6th Armored Div. Dec. 1944 Ardenne winter version.

Hi guys,
I see we have the dreaded "dueling threads" situation going on! (Why did we start a new thread in the first place?) Can somebody lock the old pre-start thread that Jeff just posted on? Otherwise the split's only going to get worse...
