I have been busy with many other of life's problems for about 4 months and now wish to pick up my Sherman build and finish it. In looking at it setting there wondering where Iv been it is in a configuration that seems at variance to the M4A3 Dry Sherman. Below is the plan view of the M4A3 Dry, I do not have one of the M4A3E2.
In looking at it the air cleaners are in the Crew Compartment, however, I somehow decided the air cleaners were to be in the engine compartment and I can't remember why. Below is a picture of a wreck with the cleaners in the engine compartment bit it does not say what model is represented. someone has a saying about someone who has too little knowledge on a subject and I guess it fits me.
Anyone have the answer?? Mean time Ill keep looking, its bound to come back to me.
That's an A3 engine. The location of the air cleaners may be a factory-specific thing. I'm out of town and away from Son of Sherman & Hunnicutt, so I can't do an engine deck comparison. But the early, dry-stowage Ford tanks had a slightly different deck than the later wet-stowage ones. The open engine bay here might be a Ford tank. If someone else doesn't chime in definitively, I'll be back home to the reference library late on Sunday.
"You could probably use some armor. A Sherman can give you a very nice...edge!"
Thanks both of you for your responses. The TM-9-759 picture above must be for the Ford M4A3, the Jumbo's were turned out by Fisher which is what I am building which explains the air-cleaners in the engine compartment. Someone should offer a degree in Shermanolgy because it was a continuing work through out its manufacture.
