I swapped the lower hulls from Red Army Sherman and M4A2 PTO to give me later hull for 76. Earlier hull from Red Army now sits on my M4A2 Peleliu. Changed turret to reflect CFM-W turret (haven't added casting numbers yet). Waiting on Shapeways exhaust deflector to finish up rear area. I plan on a hairspray very faded out almost gone whitewash.
Like rbaer said somewhere else-basically Son of Sherman has ruined my life. I thought I knew something about Shermans . Now I look at a kit and go hmmm...what needs to be corrected. Just saying...
I like your weep holes and your weld on the side of the hull. I'm glad you posted up the build as I'm planing on starting one soon. Keep up the good work!
Got my Shapeways exhaust deflector in mail yesterday. Tomorrow at work I hope to get her finished. Not much left to do- rear end, lights and guards, tow cable and brackets, antenna, and casting numbers I think. I went back and added weld beads to the skirt mounting strips.
Ok, need some advice. This is my first attempt at the hairspray technique. Pretty happy with the results. Pictures make it look more stark than it is... But...for whatever reason, (not enuff spray?) the sides didn't let loose. Leave it as is and weather down? Filter then weathering? I hate to think I need to redo it.
made a little progress. Has about 5 filters on it and a very small raw umber wash. Gonna have to repaint the metal on tools...paint is too black. Pretty happy so far.
Have to agree with everyone else that it is coming along very nicely indeed. The stenciling on the right side seems to have eliminated the whitewash in that area...did you clean it off before putting the decal down?

Hey Greg. I had a problem with the hairspray letting loose on the sponsor sides. For whatever reason, it only chipped on the decals. I will eventually figure out a way to fix it. Ive put down some filters and dry-brushed custom mix of oils for OD on it so far.
OK...I'm considering this one 99% done. Just have to add an antenna and some touch up. I got all the weathering done on this in a day just before a show. Oil washes, some detail painting, tracks and pigments. Talk about a rush job. Funny how a camera will pick up stuff I can't see with my old naked eyes.
Stunning. The whitewash picks up the shipping stenciling and makes them look like they've silvered, which they haven't...might be an artifact of the camera. If you touch up that area I think you can break up the straight lines of the decal to blend them in a bit more. You could also use some OD to make it appear that some of the stenciling has worn away. The mud and dirt effects on the running gear are fabulous, too.
