Next to the forefront on the bench in an attempt to reduce the backlog of builds is Tiger Lil, a Sherman III.
This Sherman, commanded by Cpl Rex Miller from 9 Troop, C Squadron, 20th Armoured Regiment served in Italy during the Cassino battles. It was lost on the Cavendish road in March 1944 after slipping off the road and becoming stuck.
I'm recreating the scene using a Tasca Sherman III. Bison provided the vehicle decals with additional detailing using Voyager and ET PE, Bronco tracks etc. The stowage boxes are from Tasca but have been modified to depict the correct shape for the Italian campaign.
I used Vallejo Khaki for the base coat to represent the Light Mud with Lifecolor Panzer Grey for the SCC14 Blue Black. Extensive weathering to produce a dusty look is acheived using oils, AK and Mig products. The tarp on the top of the turret bin is a bit of artistic licence using milliput. Here's where she currently stands with tracks being next on the agenda....
Thanks John. Need to take some better pics as it doesn't show the weathering up that well. Still lots more to do, but happy with the direction it's heading. Off to paint the tracks now....
That's very nice! Something I think you're absolutely nailed is the roundel on the engine deck screening, superb. Are you going to try to replicate the half-thrown left track?
Looks great! I think the weathering is showing up well, but you are absolutely correct that lighting and camera settings make a huge difference in how well a model photographs. It looks like you have a lightbox and adequate lighting, so you may just want to play with the Exposure Value settings on your camera to adjust how the colors & contrast show up. It takes some fiddling to find out what the camera likes, and the base colors on the model affect that. All the shots of my my models were taken with a nearly ten-year-old Sony DSC-F828 8-megapixel camera with integral 28-200 zoom lens, so you don't need a recent DSLR to get good results. Though I wouldn't mind if a new Sony Alpha-series magically appeared at my house!

"You could probably use some armor. A Sherman can give you a very nice...edge!"
