A friend of mine thought it would be a good idea for me to post my current build on this forum. I recently did a daily journal of my grandfather's time in WWII serving with the 78th Infantry Division. After seeing this Sherman in his divisional book I decided to build the kit using the picture as reference.
After picking the mind of the "Sherman Lord", otherwise known as John Hale. His suggestion to use the link, the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/ paid huge dividends in providing me with some much needed reference photos. Good stuff!! I'm not liking the lack of the fender bracket on this build. Time to break out the spare PE! Almost ready for some of, Steve Munsell's ValueGear Details products.
My first hiccup in the Hobby Boss kit. I checked the PMMS review to confirm it was a manufactured issue or something I was doing wrong. It confirmed my suspicions that the fit just wasn't up to par. Filed down the sides of the hatch and dry fitted it into the hole. A few dollops of gap filler and I am much happier now. Much better. The review also mentioned the poor fit on the turret halves. They weren't kidding there either. I ran a bead of CA and I still have some more work to do, telling from this angle. Many thanks to, Steve Munsell for supplying me with a "one of" storage set for this build. He has been surprising me with bits since my first order of his ValueGear Details products last year. If you have yet to work with his sets, you are definitely missing out!!
Oops! Good thing I had one in the spares box. It was time consuming but well worth it. I think I finally got that tranny cover where I wanted it. Ready for some ValueGear Detail products! Just needs a scratch built turret side rail, the tools put on and the rear deck will be ready for stowage also. Playing around with some ValueGear Products bits. Test fitting some stowage.
Shameless plug for Steve Munsell's fine products.
I will probably never build another plastic figure again. Resin rocks!!
Commander and gunner are on the slate for a later date. Unbeknownst to me, ValueGear Details had made me a couple of special stowage sets for my build.
I'm liking this set!
Some more dry fitting of ValueGear Details and some bits from the kit itself. Almost ready for some paint slinging!
