Chilean M51 Sherman Conversion for Tamiya Kit no.323
((IN BOX LOOK))
Product Breakdown
Scale: 1/35th
19 Resin Parts
1 Styrene Rod
1 Photo-Etched Fret (containing around 50 PE parts)
Cost: 41.00 USD (double check with Greg for current pricing)
In 1979 the Chilean military received 120 M51 Super Shermans from Israel. These M51s remained unchanged from their original configuration. However in 1994 100 M51s underwent a major overhaul program focused on the aging Cummins engines that came with the Shermans. The Cummins were replaced with a new Continental Diesel engine that significantly changed the layout of the M51s engine deck with a new exhaust pipe exiting through the top of the engine deck and running along the top of the left sponson to the rear. Thanks to Greg Buechler Enterprises the Sherman builder now has the opportunity to build this very interesting variant of the little know Chilean Shermans.
The Chilean conversion kit comes in light gray resin that is finely molded with crisp details requiring little to no clean up. 19 resin parts are supplied along with a styrene rod for the large stowage bin and lastly a photo-etched fret for the engine deck louvers. Three pages printed on both sides with color photos provide the assembly instructions. It should be noted that while this kit has a low parts count it is intended for the model builder with an above average skill level stemming from the rather complex photo-etched louvers. Greg has done a great job with making the assembly of the louvers as easy as possible but their very nature is complex. Working slowly with heaps of patients is a must, but the molder builder will be rewarded with a spectacular level of detail when completed.
Don’t let the engine deck louvers scare you away from this awesome conversion kit as it will produce a truly unique subject and on top of that Greg is extremely helpful and prompt in replying to questions! I’m looking forward to his future releases.
